CLASS SESSION ONE: Introduction

Lecture:

Sept. 21.  First class meeting.  Syllabus review, class Roster, Schedule, take digital photos, discuss plagiarism, get writing sample.  Intro to the study of literature.  Intro to American Literature.  All seniors will complete a Senior Project also.  The topic must be approved.  It can be a joint or group effort, with approval.  Expect to spend 45 minutes+ per day to finish reading and writing assignments by our next session.  Pace yourself!

LECTURE: Intro to literature of Puritans lecture with structured notes (begin).  American Historical Documents, p. 269, Manifest Destiny.

READING:

·          Read pp. 1-32 in your syllabus: Arabella Covenant, Add Mayflower Compact?; History of Plymouth Plantation excerpt, info on Puritans from Reformation Today and Banner of Truth. Expect a quiz on pages 1 - 32; Glossary, Timetable, Changing Worldviews, Writing Papers for Mrs.E (p.373)

·          Two reading levels: 1) Familiarity 2) Mastery

·          Read Glossary of Information for familiarity

·          Read through timetable for familiarity

·          Read through Changing Worldviews of American Literature
